2. Selecting and Viewing a Data Set

The first screen you will see after gaining access is the SST Mapper View Data Sets page, with a thumbnail image of all data available for the last 7 days down the left side.
Data for the SST Mapper is updated up to 30 times daily. This page allows you to select the best dataset for your purposes.
In most situations, the best data will be the most recent. The only exception is if cloud cover has obscured the area you want to look at.
| Step 1: |
Check if data is available for your area by clicking the View Larger Image link under the thumbnail image or click the thumbnail image itself (Fig 5). Note: This will not count as one of your uses if you have purchased a Multiple Use Pack or count as the start of your Single Use. However, once you click on the thumbnail or the Sea Temperature or Sea Colour buttons button the use will be deemed to have begun. |

Fig 5
White areas on the map indicate areas with no data due to cloud coverage. If you see a full colour image, you should select that one.
If you see white obscuring the area you want to fish, you may need to select a different data set. For example, you can either select an older dataset from the same day, or you may need to check available data from previous days. To select data from another day go the date box at the top of the page, select another date and click on "Send"
Remember that older data sets will be a less accurate guide to current conditions than more recent data sets.
| Step 2: |
Once you have determined that good data is available, click on the Sea Temperature button next to that dataset or click on the thumbnail of the data that you wish to use (Fig 6). Note that once you have done this one of your Multiple Use Pack uses will be debited off your account or your Single Use access begins. |
