1. How do I get access to the system?
Click on the "Get Data Here" link on the top left hand side of the page. You
Select the access option that best suits you and click "OK"
Enter your details and click "OK"
Read and accept our licence agreement
Enter your credit card details
2. Why can't I see an image inside the Image Viewer?
There could be two reasons why you cannot see an image inside the Viewer window and instead can only see a small red cross or an error message in the top left corner similar to Fig 1 to the right.
Firstly users cannot view images on our site unless they have Java version 1.4 or later installed on their computer. Secondly if Java is installed and they still cannot see an image then it is likely that their Firewall is blocking their computer from accessing the Java website to properly display the image or that Java although installed is not enabled.
Instructions for overcoming both these issues are below.

Java
You can test to see what version of Java you have installed, if any, by clicking the Test Java button below and then scroll down and see what it says in the pink box. To operate on this site you need a version of Java 1.4 or higher.
If it says that you are not using any version or that your version is older (lower) than 1.4 then you need to download Java by clicking the Download Java button below which will take you to the Java web site and you then need to follow the instructions below.
It is recommended, before you proceed with online installation you may want to disable your Internet firewall. In some cases the default firewall settings are set to reject all automatic or online installations such as the Java online installation. If the firewall is not configured appropriately it may stall the download/install operation of Java under certain conditions. Refer to your specific Internet firewall manual for instructions on how to disable your Internet Firewall.
If you are running Windows 98 (2nd edition or higher) or ME you need to click here instead to download Java and then click on the Download J2RE 5.0 Update 14 link. You need to select "Windows" in the platform chooser on the next page and agree to the licence conditions.

Instructions for Windows XP/Vista/2000
1. Click on Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 Online
2. The File Download dialog box appears prompting you to run or save the download file;
To run the installer, click Run.
To save the file for later installation, click Save.
Choose the folder location and save the file to your local system.
Tip: Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop.
Double-click on the saved file to start the installation process.
3. The installation process starts. The installer presents an option to view the License Agreement. Click the Install button to accept the license terms and to continue with the installation.
4. Sun Microsystems has partnered with companies that offer various products. The installer may present you with option to install these programs when you install Java. After ensuring that the desired programs are selected, click the Next button to continue the installation.
5. A few brief dialogs confirm the last steps of the installation process; click Close on the last dialog.
This proces could take up to about 5-15 minutes to download and install depending on your Internet connection speed. You may need to restart (close and reopen) your Internet browser to enable the Java installation in your browser. Turn your firewall back on.
If after installing Java and you find that the images still do not appear then it is probably one of two things issues. Your Firewall is preventing access to the Java site (see Firewall section below on how to fix this) or it is that Java is not enabled in your browser. Please follow the instructions below to enable Java through your Web browser:
Internet Explorer 4.x and above
1. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
2. Select the Advanced Tab, and scroll down to "Java (Sun)"
3. Check the box next to the Java version
4. Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
5. Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
6. Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
7. Click OK to save your preference.

Other Web Browsers Firefox 0.8 and Up
1. Start Mozilla Firefox browser or restart it if it is already running.

Macintosh Computer
It is likely that you are using a MacIntosh computer with the OSX operating system.
Unfortunately users cannot view images on our site using this operating system unless they use the Mac OS X default web browser, Safari, or the web browser, Opera. Safari can be downloaded by clicking here.
Java should be pre-installed on most Mac computers. If however, you are having problems then it is probably because you are using a browser other than those mentioned above rather than you don’t have Java. Java for Macs can however be downloaded by clicking on this link
http://developer.apple.com/Java/download.

3. Cookies
Seasurface uses "cookies" to allocate processing sessions on our WWW server and image processing system. A "cookie" is a small piece of information sent by a web server to store on a web browser so it can later be read back from that browser. You can read more about "cookies".
In some WWW browsers it is possible to explicitly stop the handling of "cookies." To use seasurface, "cookies" must be enabled. We use them to separate what you're doing from what the other users on the system are doing at the same time. That way, you get to see your images, not somebody elses! If you have not already enabled your computer to accept "cookies" then follow these steps:
Internet Explorer
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
Click Advanced.
Click Override default settings and then specify how you want Internet Explorer to handle cookies from first-party Web sites and third-party Web sites (A Web site other than the one you are currently viewing).
If you want Internet Explorer to always allow session cookies (cookies that will be deleted from your computer when you close Internet Explorer) to be saved on your computer, click Always allow session cookies.
Netscape
On the Edit menu in Netscape, choose Preferences
Click the Advanced category.
Under Cookies click one of the radio buttons.
If you find that you have to enable cookies then to continue you will have to close down all browser windows open to this site and start afresh.
Firefox
On the Tools menu on the toolbar
Click Options from the dropdown list
Cloick on the Privacy tab
Ensure that both boxes under the Cookies category are ticked.
Click on OK
4. What are my access options?
You can access this data in three ways:
Single Purchase (Access the SST Mapper for 1 purchase at a time allowing 24hour access only and for a limited number of processes. Also finishes when you close your browser or print/export an image); or
Multiple Purchase Subscriptions (Pre-pay to access the SST Mapper for 10 or 20 purchases, with no time limit); or
Unlimited Use Subscription (Access SST & Sea Colour information unlimited times for pre-defined periods from 1 week to 12 months).
Click here to see details and costs of the various pricing options.
If you are going fishing regularly, then a subscription purchase is your best option.
