Why can't I see an image inside the box on the Image Viewer page?
|
Users cannot view images on our site unless they have Java version 1.4 or later installed on their computer. If they have no Java installed they will only see an image like Fig 1.
You can test to see what version of Java you have installed, if any, by clicking the Test Java button below and then scroll down and see what it says in the pink box. To operate on this site you need a version of Java 1.4 or higher.

If it says that you are not using any version or that your version is older (lower) than 1.4 then you need to download Java by clicking the Download Java button below which will take you to the Java web site and you then need to follow the instructions below.
If you are running Windows 98 (2nd edition or higher) or ME you need to click here instead to download Java and then click on the Download J2RE 5.0 Update 14 link. You need to select "Windows" in the platform chooser on the next page and agree to the licence conditions.

Instructions for Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Click on the download button for "Windows (Online Installation)" and save the file to your hard disk. Then go to the location where you saved the file and double click on it and follow the prompts to install Java. Instructions can also be found on the Java site.
This could take up to about 5-15 minutes to download and install depending on your Internet connection speed. You may also need to close and reopen your Internet browser for the update to work.
Macintosh Computer
It is likely that you are using a MacIntosh computer with the OSX operating system.
Unfortunately users cannot view images on our site using this operating system unless they use the Mac OS X default web browser, Safari, which can be downloaded by clicking here.
Cookies ?
Seasurface uses "cookies" to allocate processing sessions on our WWW server and image processing system. A "cookie" is a small piece of information sent by a web server to store on a web browser so it can later be read back from that browser. You can read more about "cookies".
In some WWW browsers it is possible to explicitly stop the handling of "cookies." To use seasurface, "cookies" must be enabled. We use them to separate what you're doing from what the other users on the system are doing at the same time. That way, you get to see your images, not somebody elses! If you have not already enabled your computer to accept "cookies" then follow these steps:
Internet Explorer
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
Click Advanced.
Click Override default settings and then specify how you want Internet Explorer to handle cookies from first-party Web sites and third-party Web sites (A Web site other than the one you are currently viewing).
If you want Internet Explorer to always allow session cookies (cookies that will be deleted from your computer when you close Internet Explorer) to be saved on your computer, click Always allow session cookies.
Netscape
On the Edit menu in Netscape, choose Preferences
Click the Advanced category.
Under Cookies click one of the radio buttons.
If you find that you have to enable cookies then to continue you will have to close down all browser windows open to this site and start afresh.
What are my access options?
You can access this data in three ways:
Single Purchase (Access the SST Mapper for 1 purchase at a time) - you have 24 hrs to use view data sets provided you do not close your Browser. However, once you download or print an image your purchase has been completed.
Multiple Purchase Packs (Pre-pay to access the SST Mapper for 10 or 20 purchases, with no expiry time limit) - each use has 18 hrs from the time you select a thumbnail.
Unlimited Use Packs (Access SST Mapper information unlimited times for a pre-defined period)
Single Access: $15 inc GST. Click here to see other pricing options.
If you are going to sea continually, then a subscription purchase is your best option. Otherwise, you will be best served by paying as and when you need access.
Why is there a white section on the image?
Cloud cover can affect the availability of data in certain areas.
When you log in to the SST Mapper, you first select the region you are in from the map of Australia, and then you will be presented with thumbnail images of the data sets available.
When you view the larger image of these thumbnails, you may see sections of white where there is no data available. This only happens in cases of significant thick clouds.
