4.3. Importing SST/Sea Colour Images into Memory-Map Marine Software

Once you have installed Memory-Map Marine onto your computer, registered your licence you then need to download the optional data import facility. All you need to do to activate the full licence is select Help, Licence management, then select Import Maps, Activate, Buy. You then need to follow the steps below to import SST and/or Sea Colour images.
| Step 1: |
Start Memory-Map Marine by double clicking on the icon on your Desktop and then on the toolbar click on Web/Check for updates to ensure you have the latest version of Memory-Map (5.2.5 or higher required).
|
| Step 2: |
On the toolbar click on Map/Default Map Projection and ensure Projection is set to Lat/Long and Datum is set to WGS84.
|
| Step 3: |
Ensure that you have exported and saved your SST and/or Sea Colour files (there are 2 - JGW & JGW) into the Memory-Map's map and chart folder (by default C:\Maps). One file should be the image (.jpg) and the other is the georeferencing information (.jgw). If you are unsure how to download these images read the instructions under the Exporting & Downloading button to the left.
|
| Step 4: |
Open your map & chart list in Memory-Map by clicking on the Map/Map List button on the Memory-Map toolbar. Click Refresh Map List (See Fig 14d below).

| Step 6: |
Ensure the location you have saved the image/s you wish to import is listed in the resulting dialogue box. If not (ie: if you have elected to save them to a custom location) simply click Add Folder to add the location to the list of folders Memory-Map monitors and click on the appropriate folder where your images are stored. Click OK (see Fig 14f below).

| Step 7: |
The imported chart will now be available in your map list. Click on the image that you wish to view and click OK. Once you have the SST chart on screen, check the bottom right of the screen for coordinates of cursor position, If you see lat/long coordinates, everything is working fine, if you see X, Y coordinates the chart failed to be geo-referenced properly and you need to start over checking that you downloaded both files and saved them in the same place with the same file name.
If you wish you can also select from the list of charts that accompany Memory-Map, a traditional hydrographic chart covering the same area. Once the image and the chart are opened you can click the Sync button to view the image and chart (see Fig 14g below). Moving one also moves the other and any marks or GPS tracks added appear on both simultaneously.
